Forensic Linguistic evidence has been used in many countries in
a wide variety of courts. The range of crimes involved is

R v Couchman: In December 2008 Tony Couchman came
under suspicion for the murder of his daughter, Victoria. The
Institute was asked to compare features of his SMS texts
with those found in a set of questioned phone texts
purported to have been sent by Victoria. Sadly, this
evidence will not be able to be tested in court as Mr
Couchman has died in prison (January 2010). See our case
page for details of the texts.
